With traditional braces you may be more susceptible to have discomfort, mouth sores, pain, tooth decay from poor brushing and flossing, difficulty eating or even injuries caused by the braces and wires.  As if that weren’t bad enough, you also have to sacrifice eating your favorite foods like, nuts, popcorn, bagels, hard-crusted pizza, corn on the cob and certain candies.smiling woman invisalign page

Invisalign is a series of removable clear trays.  This means that not only does nobody know you are straightening your teeth, but you can remove them in order to eat and brush and floss your teeth.

That’s right with Invisalign you can remove your aligners for that special occasion.  Just snap them out for that time and put them back in when you’re ready. Though this really isn’t necessary because most people won’t even know you’re wearing Invisalign aligners, because they are practically invisible!

Busy schedule? No problem, with Invisalign all you need in one appointment approximately every six to eight weeks and on average requires fewer doctor visits then with traditional braces.

Not all patients are candidates to receive Invisalign treatment.  However Invisalign can treat many different types of malocclusions.  Here are some examples of common conditions that Invisalign can treat with high success.  If you are interested in seeing if you are a good candidate for Invisalign, click on the get in touch link or call our office for a free exam and Dr. Maruri can tell you if Invisalign is right for you.

Closing space with Invisalign is a very reliable and predictable movement.  Due to the thickness of the aligners, space seems to diminish immediately once the aligners are inserted.  Closing interproximal space not only makes your teeth and smile look better, but also improves periodontal health due to food impaction.

Crowding occurs when there is an arch length tooth size discrepancy or simply put the jaw bone is not big enough to accommodate the size of the teeth.  If left untreated, crowded teeth usually get worse with time, especially in the lower arch. Crowded teeth are hard to clean and can lead to plaque and tartar accumulation, which puts you at higher risk for tooth decay and gum disease.

Posterior Crossbite

Posterior crossbite occurs when the upper jaw does not fit over the lower jaw.  This misalignment can cause your mandible to shift and cause TMJ disorders as well as premature tooth wear and chipping of teeth.

Anterior Crossbite

Anterior crossbites occur when the mandibular/lower teeth are in front of the maxillary/upper teeth.  This condition is also known as an underbite or negative overjet.  This condition is usually caused by overgrowth of the mandible and/or overgrowth of the maxilla.  Fixing underbites may require the use of rubber bands between both jaws.

Excess Overjet

Excess overjet is what is incorrectly but commonly referred to as “overbite”.  This is when the maxillary teeth protrude further then the mandibular teeth.  Excess overjet can lead to premature wearing of your posterior teeth as well as making your teeth more venerable to dental trauma such as chipped front
